    About Série A.

The 2026 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A is currently in its early stages, having kicked off on 28 January 2026. This 70th season of Brazil's top-flight football features 20 clubs competing in a double round-robin format, scheduled to conclude on 2 December 2026.

    Key Season Information

Promoted Teams: The 2026 season welcomed back Coritiba, Athletico Paranaense, Chapecoense, and Remo (returning after a 32-year absence) from Série B.

Defending Champions: Flamengo entered the season as the defending champions, having secured their 8th title in 2025.

Major Changes: Starting this year, the top five teams (plus the Copa do Brasil finalists) will qualify for the 2027 Copa Libertadores, a slight adjustment from previous qualification rules.

    Early Statistical Leaders:

Top Scorers: Carlos Vinícius (Grêmio) and Danilo (Botafogo) lead the league with 4 goals each.

Top Assists: Andreas Pereira (Palmeiras) currently leads with 5 assists.

The Brasileirão is widely regarded as the strongest non-European league, ranked 9th globally by Opta. It operates with a strict promotion and relegation system where the bottom four teams are relegated to Série B. Historically, Palmeiras is the most successful club in the competition's history with 12 titles.
